The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around Brexit, HFSS and gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital charter and our Industrial Strategy campaigns.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 50 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

Welcoming the Creative Industries Sector Deal

/ March 28th 2018
UK Industrial Strategy

The AA team was up bright and early at The Roundhouse in  Camden on the morning of Wednesday 28 March for the launch of the Government’s Sector Deal for the Creative Industries. Stephen Woodford of the Advertising Association welcomed this exciting development, commenting:

“Today’s announcement of a Sector Deal for the Creative Industries is great news for advertising. We are proud our industry is being recognised as a national success story and a key driver of economic growth. Every pound spent on advertising returns six pounds to GDP – that’s more than £120bn a year in total, supporting 1 million jobs. Growth in advertising exports is larger than that of the wider economy. Annual UK exports of advertising services are worth £5.8 billion according to the latest figures, giving us the largest trade surplus in ad services in Europe.

“We are ready to do more to boost the UK economy by growing both the uptake of British advertising services at home as well as overseas. Today we have launched Promote UK, in support of the Government’s Industrial Strategy, a new industry group to position the UK as the global centre of excellence for advertising. We are also about to launch pilot hubs in the West Midlands and Scotland to look at the ways SMEs can use advertising to grow their businesses.

“We look forward to working with Government in support of the Creative Industries Sector Deal to ensure the UK builds its position as a global powerhouse for advertising and the wider creative sector.”
