The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around Brexit, HFSS and gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital charter and our Industrial Strategy campaigns.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 50 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

MOVIN’ ON UP

Our latest advertising spend report in partnership with WARC came out yesterday and there’s good news for our industry.

UK adspend will grow by 18.2% this year to reach a total of £27.7bn. This includes an estimated 54.7% rise during the second quarter of the year – by far the highest on record – and overall would be the largest rise on record, surpassing the previous high of 15.9% growth set in 1988! We were tempted to make some late 80s reference in our newsletter but plumped for the Primal Scream banger instead.

The figures even impressed DCMS. Culture Minister Caroline Dinenage said: “It is brilliant to see that, following a record year, the future of UK advertising is set to deliver bright prospects for the entire media landscape. With the UK having the fastest growth in Europe, we should take pride in the excellence of this industry and its vital contribution as we build back better from the pandemic.”

COME TOGETHER

Another classic from Primal Scream marking the return of our annual industry event with fellow trade bodies, the IPA and ISBA. Last time, it was RESET which attracted over 700 attendees and featured a stellar line up of speakers, and this time we’re going for RENEW.

Next January 2022 we promise you another agenda-setting event as we explore how to build upon our learnings from 2021 and work towards a brighter future for UK advertising.
