The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and its value to people, society, businesses and the economy. We represent UK advertisers, agencies, media owners and tech companies on behalf of the entire industry, acting as the connection between industry professionals and the politicians and policy-makers.

The Advertising Association focuses on major industry and policy areas that have huge ramifications on UK advertising. This section contains our work around Brexit, HFSS and gambling advertising, data and e-privacy, trust, the digital charter and our Industrial Strategy campaigns.

Credos is the advertising industry’s independent think tank. It produces research, evidence and reports into the impact and effectiveness of and public and political response to advertising on behalf of UK advertisers in order to enable the industry to make informed decisions.

Front Foot is our industry’s member network of over 50 businesses across UK advertising. It aims to promote the role of responsible advertising and its value to people, society and the economy through a coalition of senior leaders from advertisers, agencies and media owners.

We run a number of events throughout the year, from our annual LEAD summit to the Media Business Course and regular breakfast briefings for our members. We are also the official UK representative for the world’s biggest festival of creativity – Cannes Lions.

NEW YEAR, NEW LOCKDOWN

Firstly, Happy New Year! We hope you had a restful break and are feeling ready to take on 2021 despite kicking the year off with another lockdown. At the AdvertisingAssociation, we are determined to help the industry and the country build back better this year and are hopeful that if we all work together we can make real change happen and come out the other side stronger than ever.

Following the announcement by the Prime Minister on Monday regarding lockdown 3.0 and the additional restrictions, our Chief Executive, Stephen Woodford, commented that: “People in advertising businesses, like everyone else in the UK, will want to adhere to the new guidance and are now extremely proficient at working from home. At the same time, businesses in our industry will need continued support to protect jobs and ensure we can continue to effectively deliver work that helps businesses communicate with customers during this difficult time.” You can read the statement in full here.

Stephen also wrote a message to the UK ad industry on how to make this lockdown count, which you can read in The Drum here. In light of the recent announcements, we have updated the Government support piece on our website to include the extended deadlines for the schemes that are available. Please do check that out here. As always we will continue to work hard to advise and serve our members and our industry as best we can throughout this uncertain time.

COMMENTING ON BREXIT TRADE AGREEMENT

Following the publication of the text of the Brexit trade agreement between the EU and the UK, our Chief Executive Stephen Woodford has made the following comment on the implications of the deal for advertising and what we hope to see develop in the coming weeks to bolster the agreement.

“I am sure everyone in UK advertising was relieved to see a trade deal between the UK and EU that avoided the chaos of a no deal transition. At the Advertising Association we hope that this lays the foundations for expanding UK advertising exports to the EU even further. However, there are still many unanswered questions surrounding the future relationship on services, which are key to the success of our economy and make up the largest proportion of UK exports.”
